25/08/2009 - Orphaned Foal update.

A little update on our orphaned foal earlier on this year.... As you can see he is doing very well and loving his new home.

Annual Westernway Stud Bar-B-QueWesternwyay American Paint and Quarter Horse Stud Annual Barbque

That's right, its our annul sausage sizzle.... and burger burning afternoon... Its scheduled for 29th August at 1:30pm at the stud...

Had been planning a full weekend of talks, demos and activities for the last week in August but owing to my poorly broken leg we have decided to tone it down somewhat and just hold our annual barbecue with a leisurely hobble around to see the stallions, mares and foals.

Anyone who would like to come and have a good time sitting around the barbecue eating, drinking, chatting and generally having fun   ....   way in to the wee small hours will be very welcome...

"Stable" accommodation for your camp stretcher and sleeping bag, or somewhere to pitch your tent will be available.

Bring your own Meat and drink, I will provide the rest...  Please contact me at the stud if you would like to come so I know just how many salads and rolls I need to get.... Lets see if the Met-Office can get it right for this special day.... You an RSVP by dropping us an e-mail using the contact us page, or confirm via our new face book page....

22nd June 2009 - Update

After driving the Doctors and Nurses of Derriford Hospital completely mad... Mum was Evicted from the Shaugh Ward on Monday...

Picture on right does not do it much justice, but there are various colours from the rainbow and a bandage covering a the operation wounds....

14th June 2009 - Update

WHOOPS....

Not content with her right hand in Plaster.... (non horse related) my Mum has yet again challenged the Local Hospital with another limb problem... Through no fault of her own (or the horse) her Left Leg has been broken in 2 places... (i tried to get the x-ray, but this was a problem) The experts say that it needs to be Pinned & Plated... 'NICE'

Pinned and Plated Broken Leg (1).jpg (56495 bytes) Pinned and Plated Broken Leg (2).jpg (51313 bytes)

I guess its a little like the art of Dancing.... 'You have to move your feet away faster than your partner can step on them'

As its not entirely convenient to take a computer in to the Hospital to check for e-mails... text'n might be the best way to get her for the next few days whilst the Doc's decide her fate....

So if you wish to assist my Mum beat Boredom in Derriford, drop her a text of well wishing... 'AWWHH'

'Yes' - I know I will be shot for doing this....  .... I will be picking up urgent info@westernwaystud.com e-mails on her behalf.

27th May 2009 - Update

Congratulations and good luck to Karen who has fallen head over heals for our orphaned chap…. After she purchased his half sister last year ‘Moonlight Legacy’, she felt that that she would love to own another little gem from the same mare.

Karen and her team will be collecting ‘Gemma’s Bright Legacy’ ‘which is his new name’… on Sunday.

Despite not even appearing on the for sale page, he is obviously now sold.

As you can see by the new photographs, he his growing and developing rapidly…. We have bright hopes for his future with his new foster mum/owner Karen.

This will free us up to devote our time to the next 2 mares that are due to foal in a few weeks time and other stud work to our existing and new clients.

22nd May 2009 - Update

Our wee man still has no name (inspitation will surprise us soon) … He feeds every 1 ½ hours, and is growing stronger and stronger each day….

A big thanks to National Foaling Bank for their advice regarding the best milk recipe… our wee foal has dramatically improved since the first few days of his life....He’s enjoying plenty of vigorous exercise in the sun and soon Sandra will be ready to run the ½ marathon in the not to distant future…

Thanks to all the text’s & e-mail of well wishes… we will keep you updated on the wee man’s progress…

Image of mare was 3 days before Birth of Foal…

20th May 2009 - Update

Autopsy report has shown that Barton Gem suffered from a ruptured uterine artery…. This bought on the premature foaling and surprised us all.

I wish to thank Kieran from EqWest equine veterinarian services for all his hard efforts and attempts in saving ‘Jemma’ we are sure that apart from a miracle, there was nothing more that could have been done.

Our unnamed orphan is growing stronger and stronger every hour… and is showing no signs of stopping…

We wish to thank Daphne from Holsworthy for agreeing to loan ‘Splash’ his half brother for a while to run with him… this will make sure he remains aware that he has 4 legs and not to be thinking he should be walking on 2 like is multiple 2 legged foster mums…

After this, he will be able to play with his other brothers and or sisters who are due later on in June….

Orphaned Foal - Born 18-05-2009

Orphaned Foal.JPG (223246 bytes)

Orphaned foal from 'Pecas Bright Bar' out of 'Barton Jem'

Born at stupid o'clock on 18-05-2009, our newest edition to the stud has arrived... But not without sadness. Sadly his mum Jemma did not make it due to birthing complications...

We need a name for our little orphan.... feel free to e-mail suggestions to info@westernwaystud.com please note, we now get nearly 100 visitors each day, so we may not be able to reply to everyone, and also, a considerable amount of time will be taken, so posts may be sporadic and infrequent
